The Matsudai Karl Bengs House is located on a street which once flourished as a post-town.
There were many inns and shops that catered to travelers through the Edo period.
By preserving and reviving the historical scenery along this road,
perhaps we can bring back the liveliness of the town as well.
From this thought, Bengs created the perspective drawing above.
With the help of the locals’ efforts to liven up the area, the city of Tokamachi agreed to subsidize the project to revive the townscape of this central road. Little by little the exterior of the buildings are transformed by Bengs. How much of it will be completed when you visit?
